January Favourites.

Hi Everybody,

I can’t believe it’s the end of January, Christmas is a distant memory and I’m a year older!

My first monthly favourites of the new year and I will try my best to review more of the new products that will be coming out in 2016!

Eau Thermale Avene Cleansing Gel – I have a mini sample of this product which I have never tried before.  This is good for oily/blemish skin as I do get blemish skin from time to time. It is soap free, non-drying and has a foamy consistency when you apply to your skin. It has a pleasant smell and I was impressed by it. I do have to get a larger size to see how it works over a longer period.

Origins Drink-up Intensive Overnight Mask – I love the idea you can leave this overnight on your face, it really smells of apricot butter and after the morning you feel the difference. Your skin feels hydrated, refreshed and replenished. This is perfect to help the skin preventing from drying out with the central heating on during the winter months. A nice product.

Alessandro Pedix Feet Heel Rescue Balm – I hate dry feet. I felt that my heels were dry and I remembered I had a heel balm from Alessandro. I applied an application of balm and I immediately felt the difference. I also love the peppermint scent,  it’s the perfect smell for your feet and my feet are now happy!

L’Oreal Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer – I repurchased this because I haven’t had it for so long and my skin looks beautiful and glowy it’s perfect to use under foundation or on its own as a highlighter. I like as it so light on the skin and not greasy at all.

Bliss Fabulips Glossy Balm – This is a breath freshening lip care, packed with shea butter, Vitamin E. How cool is that! A lovely Christmas present.

Lanolips Ointment Multipurpose Balm – How could I had forgotten this product in my stash of lip balms! This saved my lips as they were so chapped and cracked because of the weather. So painful but using this saved them!

Chanel Rouge Coco in ‘Gabrielle’ – You can’t go wrong with Chanel lipsticks, they are all gorgous and red is a classic lipstick colour.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in ‘Zero’ It really does glide on and is a fantastic product. Now I fancy more colours..

Urban Decay Naked Palette – A dream come true, I have always wanted a Naked palette and love all the colours. I will be doing a seperate review later..

Adele 25 , The very very best of Crowded House and A Foot in the Door – The best of Pink Floyd – I love music and these are 3 of my favourites for the month. I never tire of listening to the same CDs and at home we always play music. We don’t have a TV but we couldn’t be without our music..

The backdrop is another Christmas present, a lovely wool tartan design scarf, I love it,  it’s my fashion statement of the month..

Pleasure and Pain Exhibition at the V&A!

Hi Everybody,

I have mentioned before how brilliant it is to be a member of the V&A. The different types of exhibitions that are available to see makes it special to visit this wonderful museum.

I like shoes and this exhibition of shoes through the ages is a delight to see. It would have been easy to pick a few hundred nice examples and display them. But to the credit to the team at the V&A they have challenged the viewer to look at shoes in a different light and how shoes have a different meaning through the thousands of years of history.

The exhibition has so many highlights. The beautiful 2000 year old Egyptian Roman sandals embellished in near pure gold to the vibrant red ballet shoes made famous in the 1948 film  The Red Shoes to the Vivienne Westwood super-elevated ghillie in leather and silk satin ribbon made famous by Naomi Campbell stumbling on the catwalk with them. I haven’t even included the famous Sex and the City shoes worn by Carrie Bradshaw ;the heartbreaking silk shoes worn by 19th century women in China; the bath shoes of Egypt with the 28cm high heel.

Upstairs has the videos of the great shoe designers talking about their work and the shoe collections of people. One man who bought the ordinary everyday shoes for women for over 50 years: The collector who only decided to collect Adidas trainers: The collector who purchased high-street shoes. It was wonderful to see how different viewpoints of collectors can build over the years.

It is a fascinating look at history through shoes worn by the rich and poor, famous and not famous. It is a beautiful exhibition worth visiting before it ends at the end of this month.

Sexy Reds!

Hi Everybody,

I was looking at my lipstick collection and I hadn’t realized how many red lipsticks I had. Red lipstick is a timeless, classic look for a woman. To me it is glamorous and you only have to look at Marilyn Monroe and the other great Hollywood sex symbols who used a red lip. It is a truly sexy look and makes you feel sexy. All women can wear the red lipstick and so many women don’t and I don’t know why. Is it fear? Is it shyness? I believe all women are sexy and can wear the red lip look. Red is passion, love and desire but can also mean anger, energy and danger.

All of the lipsticks have a different feel and texture and their staying power is very good.

Here are a few inspiration quotes if you are still not sure about red.

Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick. – Gwenyth Paltrow

When in doubt, wear red – Bill Blass

Mitomos Japanese Facial Sheet Masks.

Hi Everybody,

When I was in Latvia in October, I always go to Douglas shops to have a look if they have anything new we don’t have here in the UK. My eyes were drawn to the pretty Japanese print packaging of these facial masks. The interest in disposable facial mask sheets started in Asia but now they are getting popular in the UK. Now all the different brands are making their own type of sheet masks.

My mother, husband and myself have tested them out of curiosity to see if they work and improve your skin. They are easy to use if you follow the simple instructions. Before you apply you must have make up free, clean, dry face. You remove the mask from the packaging and unfold it and apply it to your face. You check to see if it is evenly applied onto your face and press it against the skin and leave it on for 20-30 minutes. It does at first feel cold against your skin but that is normal.

After the 20-30 minutes remove it from your face and you don’t wash it off and gently rub any excess into your skin. All of us felt that our skin feel tighter and looked brighter from using it. We all thought our skin felt hydrated and softer from the mask. It was fun, quick and easy to use.  One downside is that you do look like Jim Carrey in’The Mask’ when wearing it! I was laughing at myself when I wanted to take a picture of me wearing it.

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle EDP.

Hi Everybody,

Coco Mademoiselle was created in 2001 by Jacques Polge, the recently retired Head of Chanel Perfumer at Les Parfums Chanel. It is marketed to women in their 20s and 30s, leaving Chance to the younger fans, and  No. 5 to the more mature lover of perfume.

The packaging is beautiful as you would expect from Chanel , an etched glass top with a white band with the interlinking CC logo is beautiful and classy. The bottle is a wonderful, simple square shape.

The fragrance’s top notes of orange, bergamot and mandarin; middle notes of jasmine and rose petals.; and a base of patchouli, vetiver, vanilla, tonka bean and white musk.

It is a beautiful floral fresh fragrance with a hint of coolness. It is a fantastic summer scent as the citric notes really do bring out the freshness to this perfume. To me this fragrance was love at first smell and I will never be without with it in my collection. This perfume makes you feel special, sophisticated and sexy, and I don’t think Mademoiselle Chanel would have been disappointed by that!

Mascaras I Used Throughout 2015!

Hi Everybody,

Mascaras are so important to how you look, they make your eyes pop and gives you that wow look. You can be without eye shadows but you can’t be without mascara!

Here are the four I used throughout 2015.

First Mascara is the No 7 Exceptional Definition Nutrient Enriched Mascara. I purchased this for the second time as it makes your eyes so beautiful. It has triple effect brushes which gives good volume and definition. A lovely everyday mascara.

Bourjois  One Second Volume Mascara is opposite to the No 7 mascara as it has a fatter brush to it. This gives you a much thicker volume and was impressed by it. I was unsure about it at the beginning but when I started using it everyday my mind was changed as it made beautiful eyelashes. One to repurchase again.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara has a curved brush but similar bristles on the brush to the No 7. The curved brush does help to give you a curled lash effect to them. A very good mascara.

My last one is the Dior ‘Diorshow’ Iconic Overcurl Mascara. This is my first luxury mascara and it has not disappointed me. It has a lovely overcurl brush which grips your eyelashes beautifully and gives a fantastic volume. It has the perfect formula. You buy it, you apply it and you get the exact, instant look you want.

Drugstore mascaras are a wet formula from the beginning when they are new so they need to dry to get the best out of them but they still good when you allow them that time.  The Dior doesn’t need that, the formula is so right from the first moment you use it. It is the best I have tried and it gives you the million dollar baby look!

December Favourites.

Hi Everybody,

December is gone and I haven’t done any favourites I have used since September so I thought I should do one!

First up is Mascara. I have used Maybelline Lash Sensational. I didn’t like it at first but it has grown on me and now it is a firm favourite. It gives really nice definition and is excellent value for money.

Sleek i-Lust 24K Gold Collection The Gold Standard 089 – Very nice packaging, 6 shades of which 2 are cream and the rest are powder. They are quite buttery and the texture is very smooth. They are very pigmented and are great everyday colours. A really great value for money  palette and Sleek are a great budget make up brand and I always look forward to seeing their new products.

2 lip products. First one is Clinique ‘Cherry Pop’. A freebie from Glamour magazine. The colour is beautiful and really is a cherry red. It is so pigmented and long-lasting. It is also non drying and a fantastic formula and I can’t wait to try the other colours. What a winner from Clinique.

Yet another product from Sleek. Glitter Me ‘Private Jet’ This is a lovely candy red with pink-purple undertones. This has a non sticky formula which can be the problem with some lip glosses. I like a nice lip gloss and this one is a good one. Good for warm and cool skin tones as well.

As you know I love hand creams and I have been using Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream. It has a buttery feel but not so greasy. It easily absorbs into the skin with its grape polyphenols, avocado and shea butter formula. It smells great and it is always in my handbag for work. Another great product from Caudalie.

Ruth Mastenbroek ‘Amorosa‘ perfume.  I have a little sample of this perfume. It is a heady, warm, floral  perfume with lots of white floral, melon, tuberose and ylang-ylang. It smells of England to me, the combination of flowers and the aquatic fresh scent. I like it, it is a grown-up perfume and quite strong so you don’t need to use a lot of it!

I look forward to 2016 with lots of new products to come and lots to look forward too. I wish you all a very happy New Year.
