Dr Hauschka Clarifying Face Care Kit!

Hi Everybody,

Dr Hauschka has been around since 1935 and based in Eckwalden since 1950. Their reputation is based on its principals of sustainability,  an holistic approach to the mind and spirit and the use of science.

I bought this sample kit in Infinity Foods in Brighton.  I choose the Clarifying Face Care Kit for combination, blemish and oily skin. I have never tried any of their products and I always think the small kits are a great introduction to a brand.

The kit includes; Cleansing Cream; Clarifying toner; Clarifying Day Oil; Melissa Day Cream; Clarifying Steam Bath; Clarifying Clay Mask and Revitalising Mask. So it has everything you need to cleanse, tone and moisturize, which are the three main steps Dr Hauschka  taught to look after your skin.

The cleansing cream is a thick, grainy consistency which is not abrasive to the skin at all but the unusually texture is different to other cleansing creams. You can feel the difference after washing it from your skin.

The Clarifying  Toner really does freshen the skin and it  did help with my redness.

The Day Oil absorbs so quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave a greasy feel to it and my skin loves it!

The Melissa Day Cream is a nicely balanced cream which can can do anything.  It calms, hydrates and radiants the skin. My make-up didn’t slide at all.

The Steam Bath prepares the skin for a deep cleanse and is very freshing.

The Clay Mask I used after the Steam Bath and it gives a deep cleanse as it draws out impurities and dirt. My skin feel brighter and blemishes were not so aggressive and also less redness.

The Revitalising Mask rejuvenates and soothes the skin. My blemishes and redness were less aggressive and my skin had a radiant glow.

If you have a nut allergy, please make sure you read the ingredient list as some products do contain peanut oil.

I liked all the products and enjoyed the skincare regime and I really felt the difference of using them so I will be buying some of the full-size products and I will include them in my skincare routine from now on.

Scents for the Home!

Hello Everybody,

When you come home, there is nothing better to light a candle. My father, when I was child, always had candles burning. Not necessary a scented candle but just the glowing warmth of a burning light to give sparkle to the home. Since then I have always loved having candles burning. The popularity of candles has grown into a lucrative business nowadays and so has the price of candles! I like to find some reasonable priced candles but good quality too but it is challenging!

First up is Fortnum & Mason Countess Grey Tea Candle is a small size (burning time 20-24 hours) but  it is a nice scent of green tea and bergamot with a hint of orange and we did feel the fragrance around the flat. A very subtle, refined scent.  The packaging, as you would expect from Fortnum & Mason is quality. A perfect afternoon tea candle when sipping tea and scones.

The next one was a TK Maxx find. The Ralph Lauren ‘Cotton’ candle. This is a large, glass William Morris inspired Arts & Craft design, The scent is fresh, light and clean with a hint of floral. The whole room feels like fresh laundary with the windows open. This is a summer, lazy morning, staying-in-bed scent.

The third candle was purchased from & Other Stories, Bouquet de Saison Bougie Parfumee candle. I walked into the store off Oxford Street and the smell was so unusually and intoxicating, I had to follow the scent until I found the display table. I immediately found the table and I picked up the first candle and this was it. It is hand-filled candle in a simple white pottery with the top dipped in a light green glaze with an embossed name. The scent is a  green floral scent with a hint of woodiness. It feels like a fresh, spring morning. Unusually and oh so French, perfect for the Riviera!

Edinburgh in Pictures!

Hi everyone,

At the beginning of the month we made a weekend trip to Edinburgh. This was my first visit to this beautiful city and I don’t think it will be my last. We were so lucky with the weather, only rained twice in the daytime! The view from Edinburgh Castle and Calton Hill were memorable. Holyrood Palace and the view of Arthur’s Seat was magnificent. The hidden back streets obliviously inspired J K Rowling’s Harry Potter and the cobbled streets reminded me of Riga Old Town. On every corner, there is shops  selling whisky, cashmere, Harris Tweed, tartan scarves and Kilts. You even have Christmas Shops! If you visit the city you have to make a trip to the Zoo and see the only giant pandas in Great Britain. One of my favourite shops was Taste of Scotland, selling novelty whisky, crystal glasses, chocolate, soaps, fudge, teas, jams.  I wanted to try the traditional dessert of cranachan but I couldn’t find it anywhere. We had to make our own version but we got home!  One thing that has stayed with me was the smell of oats that surrounded the city from time to time!

Lanvin ‘Marry Me’ EDP!

Hi everybody,

Lanvin Marry Me was introduced in 2010 and is a love scent. The bond between a woman and her perfume is strong, it almost follows her like a shadow.

The bottle is a very beautiful design with a cute purple ribbon. The scent is a lovely blend of floral and fruit, it isn’t too sweet or floral and is evenly blended. The top notes are freesias, rose, jasmine and magnolia. The sweet fruitness of peach is evident and the slight sharpness and bitterness of orange is also there. The dry down gives the warmth from the musk, cedar and amber.  All the bouquet of ingredients make for a beautiful perfume. It is a light scent and not all heady or overpowering. It lasts all day and I can still feel it days later on my clothes.

Lanvin Marry Me is not a girly fragrance but a romantic, grown-up scent, a truly romantic scent that lives up its name!

August Favourites!

Hello Everybody,

August favourites, so here we go!

I have been loving the Neal’s Yard Citrus Hand Wash since I saw it in Waitrose on a promotional offer. It smells of lemon drizzle cake and it refreshes your hands after washing and leaves them soft without drying them out. Although expensive, it does last long time. A wonderful product.

Patisserie De Bain Cranberries & Cream Bath & Shower Creme was a freebie gift with a purchase from Superdrug when my husband bought a perfume for me. They gave this with another Patisserie De Bain product and it is very good. It leaves your skin soft and has a beautiful, almost edible quality to it.

I don’t own any of the famous hair tools but this GHD Heat Protect Spray is a very good product. I always use a heat protect spray before drying my hairs. I’m not 100% sure but it protects the hair but you can control your hair easily.  The smell is good and the pump action works perfectly.

Percy & Reeds Shine & Fragrance Spray is a mystery product. They say it is a perfume for your hair and it will leave your hair shiner. It didn’t work for me. It doesn’t really smell on my hair and felt like a simple hairspray to me. Jury out on this one for me.

Elemis White Flower Eye & Lip Make-up Remover has a bi-phase formula so you need it shake it to activate it. It really removes the make-up very well and importantly it doesn’t sting your eyes. It does leave an oily residue on your eyes so I do like too wash it off with water.

Elemis Soothing Chamomile Cleanser is a gentle, calming, hydrating formula which removes so good the make-up.  It has the texture of a lotion and I am really into using creams and lotions as cleansers at the moment. I throughly recommend this product and I must re-purchase it again.

Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Eye Cream has been a refreshing and refining product to my skin. My eye area has felt dry lately and I have found this has given more moisture, hydrated and refreshened the eye area. It absorbs easily into the skin and didn’t leave a greasy feel to the skin. It was also good under make-up.

Garnier Miracle Sleeping Cream has a springy texture to it, like a gel cream in one. But it really does work and when in the morning you wake up your skin feels refreshed and smooth. I think it is fantastic and moisturizes very good.

Maybelline Colour Sensational N0132 ‘Sweet Pink’ Lip Liner is a beautiful pinky nude lip liner. I’m not a great user of lip liners but this works on its own or with a lipstick. So long-lasting and it doesn’t dry yours lips out.

Rosie for Autograph Instant Glow Blusher in ‘Summer Sunrise‘ is a versatile duo of blusher and highlighter. It gives a beautiful glow and a bit of flush to the cheeks. It is a subtle colour and I really like it a lot.

Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Supreme Lash Building Mascara wins the longest mascara name but that is all it will win! I was very excited to try this product when I saw it in the SpaceNK sale as a set for £10.00. It fails to be give you either volume, build or length. The brush is rubbish and so is the formula. Horrible mascara.

L’Oreal La Palette Nude ‘Rose’.

Hi Everybody,

I have been using this palette from L’Oreal for some time. It’s a compact palette with 10 shades to choose from. 6 shimmery shades and 4 matt colours so you have plenty of options to mix and match the look you want. The colours are rosy and nude but you have the options for a dark purple and and a grey colour so you could re-create a smoky evening look. This is a good day time palette.  The colours have good pigmentation and are easy to blend with. It doesn’t give a bright, eye-popping vibrant look but a subtle everyday look.  The mirror is really good, long and bendable and is easy to use for a glass wearer like myself who needs to get closer!

Overall this is a good value for money everyday palette. Think of it as a half price version for the Urban Decay Naked Palette!
