LAQA & Co is a New York based company that make products that are beautiful as well as easy to use. I managed to buy 2 of their nail polishes from Heals in Brighton. The packaging was eye-catching and I always love to try new nail polishes from different brands that are new to the UK.
The colour is a beautiful metallic brown/rose gold with a shimmer appearance. As usual I put on a base coat before applying the colour. The colour applies so easily and the brush is good to use and no streakiness either. Usually I apply two coats for an intense look but this polish I only applied one coat, so intense the colour is! Sometimes when you apply nail polish you can see the nail through the colour and you need to apply a second coat to give more of an intense colour. As always I applied a top coat.
I am really impressed by this nail polish, the colour is fantastic and long-lasting too.
I haven’t done a beauty mini haul for quite some time, to show what I have picked up lately. So here we go!
Ruth Crilly’s Colab collection has been updated and redesigned. The packaging is more fun but the formula remains the same. I picked up the Paradise Dry Shampoo and the ‘Luxe Shine Glossy Hair Fragrance’ as well. I have never tried the hair fragrance so I decided to try it.
I change my shampoos all the time. This time I decided to try OGX Bamboo Fibre-Full shampoo, conditioner and Root Booster. I don’t find it is easy to get the product out of the these bottles though. I have tried their Kukui oil and the Argan Oil of Morocco shampoos and I liked them so I’m looking forward to trying this one.
When I went to the Beauty Show I did go to the Elemis Bus and picked up a gift set to try. I bought the make up bag with the Skin Nourishing Shower Cream and Body Cream. It also had the Pro-Radiance Hand & Nail Cream in the gift bag. I’ve never been disappointed with any Elemis products so I hope they will follow the same pattern of being great for my skin!
Life Long Beauty Nutritive Body Butter by Judith Williams was in the Perfume Society’s ‘Heaven’ box. I have never used the body butter but I have tried the face oil and that was excellent for my skin. Looking forward to trying this product.
EOS Hand Lotion Cucumber has very cute packaging, it looks like a pebble so perfect for the handbag. I have tried lip balm in Melon so I am hoping this will be good. It does smell nice though and I do love my hand lotions/creams/
My Elemis gift box also had the famous Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, beloved by so many people, the Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm, Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm and the White Flowers Eye & Lip Make-Up Remover. I have tried the make-up remover before and it has shakeable bi-phase formula which is excellent for removing mascara.
The Body Shop is one of my favourite shops. I bought the Camomile Gentle Eye-Make-up Remover, The Drops of Youth Youth Liquid Peel and the Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil.
From L’Oreal I picked up Pure Clay Glow Scrub which looks very orangey and muddy! I picked up 2 cleansers: The Pixi + Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse and Balance Me Restore and Replenish Cream Cleanser.
I am using some already so you will see them on the blog and I will review them in greater depth over the next few months!
Spring is here and I have been inspired by the blooming cherry blossom and magnolia trees I have seen around. Inspired by the colours, I have been enjoying the hint of pink on the apples of my cheeks. It gives a cute, sexy look to your face.
These are my favourites that I use every day. All of them are a powder finish.
From the top:
Kiko Soft Touch Blush 110 is a lovely bright matte pink. Easy to blend and buildable for an even more intense look. NYX ‘Bourgeois Pig’ is another matte finish pink. Slightly deeper in colour and easy to blend. Bourjois ’34 Rose D’or’ is a rose pink and has more of a shimmer than the others. It leaves a subtle finish because of the shimmer. Blendable and buildable.
From the top:
No7 Peony Petals Blush Palette is a pale pink with a slight shimmer finish. It leaves a subtle finish if you don’t want to show so much pink to the cheek. Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder ‘Maui 3’ is a nice, dark pink with a shimmer effect. This does fade during the day so I did need to top up the colour. YSL Blush Volupte Hearty of Light Powder Brush has the best packaging and the best scent! It is a light matte pink but you don’t need to use much for a beautiful finish.
I love all of them. All have different finishes and warm up your complexion according to your mood of the day and your make up look for the day.
I am passionate about fragrance. I never took my notice of Moschino perfumes until the day I walked past a display of them and tested them and liked the fresh, fruity floral scent. Perfect for the spring season I thought.
Moschino ChicPetals was brought out in 2013, the bottle is inspired by the Popeye’s fickle girlfriend, Olive Oyl. It is a long, elongated bottle half see through and half a floral top. The heart shaped collar is finished by the cap that is Olive’s head! Its cute and fun!
The scent is a fruity opening with wild strawberry at the beginning. The floral is the middle part of the perfume, orchid, lily and gardenia. The dry down I do feel musk and woodiness which gives a nice warmth to the perfume. It all comes together to make a nice composition of the three factors. For a EDT, it does last well but it is not heady if you want to top-up during the day.
I like this perfume, it’s nice to have in the collection and the bottle design is different and quirky.
I love beauty and I love fairytales and this year comes the live action story . I can’t wait to see the movie as it reminds me of my childhood when my parents bought the videos for me and my sisters to watch over and over again. We had Cinderella, Snow White, Swan Princess and Beauty and the Best and I loved Beauty and the Beast the most!
The Latest in Beauty release is a Beauty and the Beast box. The box looks like a fairytale book, even down to the page ribbon. It has a small description of the products in the box and discount codes.
There are seven products in the box. There is a Gatineau Radiance Enhancing Gommage, I have never tried this brand and I am looking forward to using this face scrub. I have tried L’Occitane’s hand creams before so I am looking forward to trying Roses et Reines Hand & Nail Cream. Perfect size for the handbag too. Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo is something I’ve wanted to try but is quite expensive so it will be great to try this handy size. Soigne ‘Betteraves Rouges’ Nail Polish is a beautiful red colour and I have tried their polishes and I have enjoyed them. Burt’s Bees Lipstick Blush Basin is a new range from them in creating a new line of lipsticks. I don’t see them in the stores so it’s great to try a new product. Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet is a new product to me and I love to try new moisturizers. The final item is a Latest in Beauty compact mirror for the handbag,
Its a nice selection, mainly French products, which has been nicely selected by Latest in Beauty. I can’t wait to try the products and to see the film.
Happy International Women’s Day!
Spring is almost here! Snowdrops, Daffodils are blooming but the coldness is still with us, fighting with the spring!
Smith & Cult was created by beauty veteran Dineh Mohajer, who created Hard Candy, and after several collaborations, formed Smith & Cult.
This range of nail polishes are available from SpaceNK and this is where I purchased in the New Year sale. The colour is called ‘City of Compton’ and is a nice, bright bubble gum pink. The bottle has a heavy, luxury feel to it. It looks great compared to other standard nail bottles. All very nice but the most important thing is the formula and how it applies.
The formula is quite watery and you do need 2 coats to get a good finish. I did find the brush is too short for painting nails and it is awkward to use as it is quite a big bottle in the first place. If the bottle was smaller it would have been fine. It stayed on the nails as well as other standard nail polishes. Like always, I did use a base coat and top coat.
Is it worth £19.00? No it isn’t but luckily I paid £9.00 in the SpaceNK sale. I don’t think I will buy all the colours but it was good to try one from this range and such a pretty colour to use as I do love pink!
I recently went to London to the beauty show and to visit the V&A’s A Brief History of Underwear exhibition. It is a short tour of the underwear design from the 18th Century to the present day. It features over 200 designs for women and men. It covers luxury hand made designs for the aristocracy to home made ‘stays ‘ for the working 18th century women to boxer shorts designed by Paul Smith. It also explores the relationship between fashion world and the everyday. On display is the underwear made famous by David Beckham designed by H&M and Dita Von Teese’s corset, which is so petite! Also at the show is the famous 1993 Kate Moss ‘sweet wrapper’ naked dress designed by Liza Bruce worn with only black panties and the Close Trompe l’oeil corset dress, designed by Antonio Berardi as worn by Gwyneth Paltrow. They also had designs from Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier ( I wish the famous Cone Corset as worn by Madonna was there. I did see at the Barbican exhibition but I would have loved to see it again!)
This is a wonderful exhibition that tours through the years. I wish it was a bigger show with more designs through the years. It did seem a bit small to me but I did find it fascinating.
I love exploring London, so much to see and so little time! I can’t wait to see what new fashion exhibitions in 2017 there will be in London.
