Kevyn Aucoin The Expert Lip Kit ‘ The Femme-Fatale’.

Hi Everybody,

Every girl should try red lips. Its sexy, passionate and a classic look.

The limited edition Kevyn Aucoin Expert Lip Kit ‘Femme-Fatale was created to make ‘wow factor ‘lips with three easy to use products to create the classic red lip look.

The three products are the Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in ‘Cerise’, the Expert Lip Colour in ‘Carliana’ and the Lip Gloss in ‘Pasiflora’. The lip pencil is a red raspberry colour, the lipstick is a blue toned red and the lip gloss is a very sheer colour to give a real gloss finish.  From these three colours you can create a matte lip or a gloss look.  Within the box you have a step-by-step guide or you can create your own look. All three products are good but I have tried using the lip gloss on its own and it was too sheer and only gave a glossy look to your lip so no real colour was seen.

I love red lip and this kit is a handy with easy to use products to re-create that look.

Beauty Pie!

Hi Everybody,

A lot of talk was generated about Beauty Pie when it was launched earlier this year. Could a company rely on its products to be as good as the big names of the make up industry for a fraction of the price and without the label? We all love the prestige and the status of labels but could it alter our way of buying? I am not a big fan of buying make up online as I love to visit shops and testing them there and then!

Beauty Pie is about offering ‘factory prices’ for make up at a fraction of the mark up price. To benefit from the ‘factory prices’ you need to join from £10 per month or you can buy at the full price. You can shop for up to £100 worth of makeup and skincare each month, up to your yearly limit. The value of the products you can buy every month is called your shopping allowance.

After much choosing and debating I finally purchased several items. The packaging is simple.  Black plastic but the quality is adequate as you would find with any products in Boots. But it is not about packaging but how good are the products?

From top: lipstick, blush, eyebrow pencil & highlighter

I bought Smart Powder Blush in ‘Daydreamer’ which is a peachy pink tone with slight shimmer. It lasted all day and is a beautiful colour. There is a good amount of blush and I love the fact it had a mirror and the whole thing is nicely compact.

Triple Beauty Liquid Luminizer in ‘Golden Swirl’ is a beautiful golden highlighter and you can use it to multi task as well as you can use it as an eye shadow. I find it lasted very well and I like that it is a subtle colour without the chunky glitter. I was really impressed by this.

The Super Brow Precision Pencil ‘Perfect Brown’ was a risky buy as I wasn’t sure if the colour would match. Other pencils I have tried gave a crumbly effect which I found annoying. This however looked great and the colour was a perfect match. The point is so tiny you can fill all the gaps and draw the line more precisely. On the end there is a tiny brush to brush the eyebrows which is very handy.

Lipsticks are so tricky to buy online because the colour isn’t exactly the same as when viewed on the internet. Futurelipstick satin lipstick in the colour ‘Puff of Pink’ is a bit darker as shown on the website. It did last all day even when I had lunch, I barely had to retouch it. It didn’t dry my lips or left any white residue on them and  it didn’t even crumble either. There is a little less product compared to some of my other lipsticks..

Uber Volume Boost Mascara in ‘Jet Black’  has a lovely small curved bristle brush which is good to use and is a good size. Other mascaras I have used  is that when you open a fresh mascara I have found it to be wet and doesn’t do what it should straight away! This one was good to use from the first application. It grabs the eye lashes easily and lengthens and separates them well with a slight volume but you have to build it up to get the volume. So far it hasn’t smudged the eyes when used throughout the day but I still need to give it a longer test to be sure.

My thoughts on Beauty Pie? So far I have been happy with the products and have been impressed by the quality of them. I will be happy to experiment more with other products from Beauty Pie and I am looking forward to trying more make up and the new skincare range. So far so good, Beauty Pie…

Francois Nars Books!

Hi Everybody,

Francois Nars is one of the great names in the fashion and make up world. A photographer, makeup artist, creator of his own brand and writer.

I have two of his make up books but I have never tried any of his makeup range! I don’t know where to start!!

Makeup Your Mind is a portfolio type book full of different ideas of make up looks for skin types and skin colour.  You have a clean face free of make on one page and the opposite page has a make up look. In between there is a clear perspex page with guidance instructions of where to put the make up on and which product he used to create the look. There is a mixture of everyday looks and editorial looks if you feel creative. A classic book on makeup and will be read for many years to come.

I like this book,  It’s easy to understand and too recreate a look or  even good practice if you want to be a makeup artist. I like the fact that different skin types and colours are cantered for in this book, so all women can try different looks.

Francois Nars is a coffee table book, a sort of visual biography to his work.  It’s a thank you to all these people who have inspired him. The photographers, models, fashion designers and all those who have helped him to be one of the great names in the fashion world. The photography is fantastic. There isn’t a lot of reading in it and the only criticism is the fact that the text is white on black and I did find it quite difficult to read it. Saying that, it is a lovely book for those who love beautiful photography, make up and to be inspired by make up!

Lancome ‘Miracle’ EDP!

Hi Everybody,

Another perfume from my collection..

Lancome Miracle was released in 2000 and was created by Harry Fremont and Alberto Morillas.  The bottle design is a very simple slim minimalist design. No eye-catching design for this perfume!

The perfume itself is a modern fresh perfume. The opening is a fruity-floral  start from litchi and freesias. The middle is a nice citrus burst of mandarin orange with a slight peppery feel and the fresh zing of ginger.  The dry down is a more subtle feel of floral with the magnolia and jasmine. In the end comes the warmth of musk and amber. It is a beautiful bouquet of scent, not overpowering or too light. Although other reviewers have said it doesn’t last long on them, I have found that it lasts all day on me.

This is a lovely, soft feminine fragrance perfect for the spring and summer.

March Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

Easter is almost upon us, where’s the year going? it will be the summer soon..

Here are my March favourites.

NIP+FAB Glycolic Fix Daily Cleaning Pads are exfolitating facial pads soaked in Glycolic acid to retexture and resurface the skin. It also contains witch hazel which helps to tone the skin and is good for blemishes. They don’t dry out the skin as they have hyaluronic acid in them as well. I use them in the evening and I have found that they do work to brighten, hydrate and resurface the skin. They really do work and I do like them.

L’Oreal Skin Perfection Correcting Concentrated Serum is something I have used everyday for the past two months.  It says it tightened pores, evens and brightens tone. I have to admit I didn’t see much difference there! I liked how it felt on my skin and it did boost the hydration and was a good base before I applied make up. I may have to try it again.

I used Dermalogica PowerBright TRx Range. It includes three products: The C-12 Pure Bright Serum, Pure Night and Pure Light SPF 50.  The serum is lightweight ,easy to apply and absorbs easily into the skin. I only applied the serum where I needed too, which was the cheeks and  jaw areas and only applied it in the evenings. On top I applied Pure Night which is a nourishing overnight treatment which helps to restore skin luminosity. It has a lovely  texture and the skin absorbed it so easily and my skin felt so smooth and brighter. The Pure Light SPF is a liquidly formula. This formula is excellent as you don’t get the white residue afterwards as you can with other SPF moisturizers/creams. I really enjoyed using this range and it really worked. I can recommend this range if you have slight pigmentation or dull skin.

I needed a new body scrub and as I have used their Soap & Glory Sugar Scrub before I decided to buy the Soap & Glory Breakfast Scrub. Like the sugar scrub it is so nice on the body when you exfolitate. It is a lovely, thick texture and the smell is unbelievable, it’s just like Maple Syrup! The smell is still on your body after you have dried yourself. I may be a bit late on this product but it’s great quality and great value for money.

Dove Nourishing Care Shower Oil with Moroccan Argan Oil is a great find. I have tried L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil and that is quite expensive for everyday in the shower. I do love the shower oils idea. You shower first then scrub and then apply the oil and rinse off. The skin feels smooth and moisturized with a slight scent so you don’t need to apply moisturizer afterwards. I have really enjoyed using this in the shower.

Neal’s Yard Organic Defence Hand Spray is a sanitizer for the hands. When I’m out and about I use it all the time if you don’t have the opportunity to wash your hands. Its the perfect size for your handbag and it’s 95% organic and it has a pleasant scent as well.

Leighton Denny Mini Mani Rescue Kit is a small kit comprising essential nailcare products in a convenient travel package. It has a duplex buffer, mini hoof stick, mini crystal nail file, curved nail clipper in a small purse-like case. I really love it even though the case is a little flimsy in my view but still worth having in your handbag.

Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow in ‘Pearl Beige’ is a cream eyeshadow with doe applicator.  If you don’t have time to apply your make up and you are in a rush, this is very convenient as it gives a nice sheer colour to your eyelids.  It’s not a long-lasting or waterproof shadow but it gives a bit of colour when you need it and time is not on your side.

Burt’s Bees ‘Blush Basin is a new lipstick range from Burt’s Bees. It is 100% natural with Moringa oil and Raspberry Seed Oil. I’m not usually a nude colour lipstick fan but this is nice on the lips. It’s moisturizing, nicely pigmented and long-lasting. It didn’t smudge, budge or crumble. The packaging is a bit boring but the lipstick formula is spot-on and I must try different shades in the range..

Home & Entertainment

I love candles that gives the whole home a nice fragrance. I received a gift of The White Company Candle Set and I do like the Winter scent from it. It was mixture of cloves, cinnamon and orange and it did give a warm scent to the home.

Rebecca Ferguson’s new album ‘Superwoman’ is a wonderful album which really shows off her fantastic voice to its full capabilities. It is a deeply personal album dealing with love and life. She is a true star and this album proves she has really developed since The X Factor . Buy it!
