On My Nails – Mavala ‘St-Germain’ & MoYou Floral Stamping!

Hi Everybody,

I have been full of ideas for nail art so I have been trying different options and experimenting with nail art designs. This time I decided to try my MoYou stamping template. It is basically a metal plate engraved with different designs. I have a small template to experiment and then go up to the larger plates with more designs. It looks so easy when you see somebody demonstrating it! They make it look so easy.  You apply a special stamping nail polish onto the plate and then you have a scraper and swipe across the polish to remove the excess. You have a clear plastic stamp and press onto the plate to collect the design and press onto your nail. Practice makes perfect!

The tricky bet is scraping just enough polish to apply onto the nail. Scrape too much and you don’t have enough to pick up the design.  As always I applied protective base coat and then applied Mavala ‘St-Germain’, which is a beautiful burgundy colour with a tiny hint of purple in it. It’s a  lovely autumnal colour which you can also wear in the summer.

I then stamped a floral design over the dried colour and waited for few minutes before applying a top coat to the nails.

Voila! a quick, easy and pretty design for the nails!

Jo Malone ‘My Story’ Book Review!

Hi Everybody,

I have finally finished this book!  I don’t usually read biographies but because it was by Jo Malone I had to read it.  Anyone who loves scent will know her perfumes and the impact they have made on the perfume world. I do love Jo Malone perfumes but Lime, Basil & Mandarin is possibly my favourite scent from Jo Malone. The unique blend is so intoxicating to me.

As English isn’t my first language it took me longer to read this book than I would have liked. I have to say that it was hard to start as her humble beginnings of her life was very emotional and I did cry a lot! I found it quite difficult to cope with that. Her parents made it a difficult life for her to have a childhood as she had so many adult responsibilities rather than enjoying being a child. Having to make money to put food on the table is not something a child should have to do but she had too. Reading that did upset me.

I did enjoy reading about her meeting her future husband, Gary and how she started her beauty treatments to her clients. That was inspirational to read how hard she worked to build her client list and make her products which become the business that become Jo Malone.  Gary encouraged her to make the business and their relationship is so strong as they really do love one another.  The business would never have grown as it did without her creative ability and drive and his encouragement and love. After a struggle and sheer hard work they eventually made enough to open a shop in London. Jo and Gary worked hard and then broke into America, expanded and drew the attention of the cosmetic giants, selling to Estee Lauder in 1999 but Jo remaining creative director until 2006.

Jo had a baby boy and then soon after disaster struck as Jo was diagnosed with cancer and then the book become difficult to read again as I read the story how she fought the cancer and won.

The last chapters cover her business venture of setting up a new company, Jo Loves, in 2013 which continues her perfume adventure as she starts again as a shopkeeper!

This is a moving, emotional and inspiring autobiography. It proves that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and work hard for it. Of course meeting the right people helps but creativity and talent are also important and Jo has a lot of that!

I have yet to go to the shop in Elizabeth Street but after reading it is tempting me and my nose even more to visit and of course I will have to buy a perfume…

On My Nails- The Body Shop ‘Hemp Over Heals’.

Hi Everybody,

I went through my nail polish collection and discovered a colour I had never worn before! The Body Shop ‘Hemp Over Heals’. I think this shade is perfect for the autumn season.

As per usual, I used Mavala Protective Base Coat. The Body Shop formulas for nail polish are very easy to use. The pigment is strong, the brush is good to use and I have found they dry very quickly on me. The shade is a olive green, like a full bowl of green olives when making a salad and quite appetizing! I always put on 2 coats and I used Mavala Top coat to finish.

It is an usual nail polish shade but I do like it as I am not afraid to have a bit of colour on my nails. I like it a lot.

August Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

I  let go summer as Autumn has now taken over from it but I will still wear my brighter lips and nails! Here are some of my favourites I have used for a month or longer.

I have worn the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream’Ivory 31′ continuously for 3 months until the last drop has been squeezed out if it! It has been a really good everyday coverage for the skin. The shade was excellent and was perfect for the summer.  Not too heavy, no breakout, gave lovely luminosity to the skin, hydrated it and it has SPF15 as well. Perfect for me and a really nice CC Cream that I will re-purchase again. I will be upset if I can’t re-purchase it!

I wanted the body illuminator from the range but it was out of stock so I bought the Tanya Burr Cosmetics Face Illuminator. You can add this to our foundation or wear it on its own. I mixed it with my foundation and it gave lovely glow to the skin. Not heavy on the skin and it worked well on it. I like the packaging as well. Very impressed by this.

The Beauty Pie Superbrow Precision Pencil ‘Perfect Brown’ is my second. It is so good, perfect shade for me, stays all day long and easy to apply it. I love it! So cheap and cheerful but still very good quality.

H&M Infinity Impact Eye Colour ‘Baci Di Dama’ & ‘Amazing Greige’ were the first eyeshadows from H&M’s make up range I have bought. Packaging is nice to start of with. Baci Di Dama is a browny-golden shade. Nice texture, quite buttery and applies so nicely and easily blendable. ‘Amazing Greige’ is a grey-brown with shimmer in it. I wasn’t so impressed with this shade. Not so buttery and the shimmer falls too easily so nothing to blend! It worked better on a wet brush when applying, less fallout and you can see the glitter!

I have been practicing my cat eyeflick with Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner Black. I still need to practice more to get it right but this has helped! It is a nice pen with a fine pointed tip but the colour is a bit muted and not a deep deep black in my view. I found that it faded during the day but it was easy to work with.

I like to use many different mascaras so it was time try Revlon Volume+Length Magnified Mascara. I love the brush on this! It is a thick bristle brush, perfect for fitting to the eye as it’s not too big or too small. It really gives length, volume and thickness. It didn’t the clog the eyelashes either. One minor fault was that I did found that at the end of the day it did crumble. I don’t like it when mascaras do that!

L’Oreal Fine Flowers Cleansing Cream has been my first step when taking off my make-up. It has a lovely scent and has a nice creamy texture and doesn’t dry the skin out. I do like this a lot.

The famous Pixi Glow Tonic is a firm favourite with me when I use it in the evenings. We all know how good it is:  It exfolitates, brightens, evens complexion and gives the skin a glowing and smoother texture.

The SenSpa One Minute Radiant Mask is a 3-1 action product. It is a cleanser, exfolitator and mask. It is not very expensive, 97% natural and it does work!  I was amazed by the results when I first used it. My skin felt great the first time I used it.

I really do like Dr Organic products. Holland& Barrett stock their products so easy to find on the high street. I have used Dr.Organic Dead Sea Mineral Bio-Plasma Mud Mask and this one is a good one. It detoxifies, purifies and rejuvenates the skin with its muddiness! Using organic ingredients and free of of nasty ingredients, it is not animal tested and suitable for vegans. Great for the skin and the pocket!

Caudalie Beauty Elixir says it soothes and gives glowing complexion. It didn’t on me!.It did refresh the skin because of the peppermint but it hardly gave a glowing complexion to my skin. It also has the worst spray mechanism I have ever used and it really irritated me!

Time Bomb Hand to Hand Hand Cream has a light lavender scent and it moisturized the hands so nicely. I do love my hand cream and I do love to try different hand creams and this one really impressed.

Lanvin ‘Rumeur 2 Rose’ EDP!

Hi Everybody,

Lanvin Rumeur 2 Rose is my third Lanvin perfume in my collection. I always think that their perfumes are underrated, interesting and classic. They are after all, a perfume house.

Rumeur 2 Rose is created in 2006 by Honorine Blanc, creator of YSL Black Opium and the new Obsessed For Women for Calvin Klein. The perfume is an updated version of the original 1934 perfume. I would love to smell that one!

The bottle is a simple shape with a light pink undertone to it. The stopper has a ring pull which is fun.

The first spray immediately splashes citrus onto you! Lemon, grapefruit, bergamot and oranges are all there. A hint of pear gives a slight sweetness to it. The dry down still has citrus notes but floral notes start to appear. Rose, honeysuckle, magnolia and jasmine give floral bouquet to the fragrance. Musk, Patchouli and amber are at the base and I can also feel green as well. It lasted well, not the greatest but for a light fragrance that isn’t surprising.

Rumeur 2 Rose is a light, fresh, green and floral fragrance. It is very nice spring/summer scent. It’s not sweet or overpowering. It is a nice perfume for those who don’t like too strong or heady fragrances. Even though it was aimed at a younger audience, I think any age can wear this perfume as it is such a light and floral fragrance.
