May Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

I’m a bit late on May favourites as I visited my family in Latvia. So here it is and there will be more coming in the June one!

I finished my Urban Decay eye primer so I found the Bourjois Eye Primer 24 Hour in Boots and decided to try it.  Its good but it didn’t last 24 hours as claimed but lasted about 8 hours on me. Any eyeshadow product I used went well on top of it. It is a universal colour with a rather good wand applicator. It would be unfair to compare to the Urban Decay but as a budget option it’s rather good.

The Body Shop Blending Brush is a really good 100% cruelty free brush. it’so soft and easy to use. The slightly domed top is the perfect size that makes it easy to blend into the eye socket. The wooden handle gives it a more luxurious feel and I will buy more of these brushes from Body Shop.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Sheer & Shine ‘Red-Y Set, Go!’ is a beautiful sheer red-orange shade. It’s so nice on the lips and it lasts a long time and it looks so juicy on the lips! I can’t stop wearing it.

Max Factor ‘Star Dust Pink’ 615 is the opposite to the Rimmel. It’s a pinky-nude shade. I have been wearing this shade when I have gone for a darker eyeshadow look. I think this type of shade is perfect with a more dramatic eye look and it always looks great. It lasts well as it is a creamy texture.

L’Oreal Micellar Water is good at removing eye makeup.  I don’t use micellar water as a face cleanser, I only use them for the eyes and most importantly it doesn’t sting them It does the job and it’s also reasonably priced.

Balance Me Restore and Replenish Cream Cleanser is a  proper creamy cleanser rather than a watery cleanser. It removes makeup well and doesn’t dry the skin out.The skin feels refreshed and smooth afterwards. It didn’t cause any breakouts and therefore quite gentle to the skin. The scent is pleasant too and I really love this.

Super Facialist By Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Brighten & Refine Facial Scrub does not have a great scent! This is a thick creamy consistency  but with a gritty feel to it as well. I wonder if it will be too strong for those who have sensitive skin. Saying all that, it does leave the skin smooth and bright. It’s an excellent choice if you need something instantly to brighten or freshen the skin.

I bought the ESPA Balancing Face Treatment Oil with a discount code back in March and I have been using every evening before I go to bed. It’s a purifying oil that boosts hydration and to balance excess oils. This oil is good for oily/combination and congested skin types. It has a nice herby scent and I think my skin looks better for using it. It absorbs easily into the skin and hasn’t caused any breakouts. I do love using facial oils, it gives time to work into the skin and there is nothing wrong with using oils in the skin.

I love my hand creams and I have throughly enjoyed Caudalie The Des Vignes Hand Cream. The scent is beautiful and you instantly feel the difference as you rub it into the hands and nails. I love it this hand cream a lot and its my bedtime routine favourite at the moment.

I have tried so many of the OGX range and I have never been disappointed with any of them. OGX Bamboo Fiber-Full Shampoo, Conditioner & Root Booster is another great additions to the range. It gives a lovely squeaky clean feel to the hair but at the same time it boosts volume and bounce to the hair. I attend  to try all the OGX ranges they do..

April Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

Time flies so quickly by doesn’t it? Here are my April favourites.

The Elemis Skin Nourishing Shower Cream is a beautifully scented, milky cream. It is a gentle cleansing cream with camellia, macadamia and jojoba oils combined with extracts of oat kernels and wheatgerm. It is so nourishing and soft on the skin. I wish I had bought it before!

The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Make-up Remover is a perfect product to try if you have sensitive skin as it doesn’t irritate or sting the eye area. It  doesn’t have much of a scent and it is a gentle make up remover and I do like to remove my make up separately from cleansing the face.

L’Oreal Pure Clay Glow Scrub is made up of three types of clay: Kaolin, Montmorillonite and Ghassoul. The red algae is for brightening the skin. It is a very unusually scrub as your face turns a brick red colour when massaged into the skin. It is not a strong abrasive texture, more creamier but you do feel some grittiness. After rinsing you do feel and see the difference straight away. The skin looks brighter. I do like this.

Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm is a multi purpose cream so you can use this as a daily moisturizer or as a make up primer. I have used this as a primer and I did notice the difference when I didn’t apply it. My skin looked matte when I didn’t use it but when I applied it the skin glowed and looked juicy! The texture is unusual as it feels like a thick sticky texture but once rubbed into the skin it melts in to it. A lovely product to use.

Max Factor Velvet Matte Lipstick in the colour ‘Nude 05’ is a nude light brown colour. I’m not a great fan of matte lipsticks that much as I do prefer glossy, juicy lipsticks. Occasionally it is nice to have a matte texture lipstick and this one is a good one. It applies easily and it didn’t dry my lips. Stayed on my lips for a good time.

Max Factor False Lash Epic Mascara has one problem. The stupid round ball at the end is too big and ruins the application of the mascara ny smudging the mascara onto the eyelids. Saying that when applied to the lashes it does elongate and separate them nicely. A good budget mascara.

I have used 3  new make up brushes.  The Barry M eyeshadow brush is a rounded ended brush which applies very nicely the eye shadows over the lids and socket. It is a soft easy to use brush for the eyes. I can’t find anymore of the brushes from Barry M, where have they gone? When I visited the Professional Beauty show, I bought 2 brushes from Crown to try. The C138 Round Crease Brush which fits perfectly into the crease of the eye socket and is a perfect brush for shadowing.  The C511 Blending Brush is a perfect copy of the MAC 217 brush. The difference is that the Mac has slightly softer bristles. Both do a great job for blending eyeshadows. The Crown is a much more reasonable price compared to the MAC and who will notice the difference when the make up is applied!

March Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

Easter is almost upon us, where’s the year going? it will be the summer soon..

Here are my March favourites.

NIP+FAB Glycolic Fix Daily Cleaning Pads are exfolitating facial pads soaked in Glycolic acid to retexture and resurface the skin. It also contains witch hazel which helps to tone the skin and is good for blemishes. They don’t dry out the skin as they have hyaluronic acid in them as well. I use them in the evening and I have found that they do work to brighten, hydrate and resurface the skin. They really do work and I do like them.

L’Oreal Skin Perfection Correcting Concentrated Serum is something I have used everyday for the past two months.  It says it tightened pores, evens and brightens tone. I have to admit I didn’t see much difference there! I liked how it felt on my skin and it did boost the hydration and was a good base before I applied make up. I may have to try it again.

I used Dermalogica PowerBright TRx Range. It includes three products: The C-12 Pure Bright Serum, Pure Night and Pure Light SPF 50.  The serum is lightweight ,easy to apply and absorbs easily into the skin. I only applied the serum where I needed too, which was the cheeks and  jaw areas and only applied it in the evenings. On top I applied Pure Night which is a nourishing overnight treatment which helps to restore skin luminosity. It has a lovely  texture and the skin absorbed it so easily and my skin felt so smooth and brighter. The Pure Light SPF is a liquidly formula. This formula is excellent as you don’t get the white residue afterwards as you can with other SPF moisturizers/creams. I really enjoyed using this range and it really worked. I can recommend this range if you have slight pigmentation or dull skin.

I needed a new body scrub and as I have used their Soap & Glory Sugar Scrub before I decided to buy the Soap & Glory Breakfast Scrub. Like the sugar scrub it is so nice on the body when you exfolitate. It is a lovely, thick texture and the smell is unbelievable, it’s just like Maple Syrup! The smell is still on your body after you have dried yourself. I may be a bit late on this product but it’s great quality and great value for money.

Dove Nourishing Care Shower Oil with Moroccan Argan Oil is a great find. I have tried L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil and that is quite expensive for everyday in the shower. I do love the shower oils idea. You shower first then scrub and then apply the oil and rinse off. The skin feels smooth and moisturized with a slight scent so you don’t need to apply moisturizer afterwards. I have really enjoyed using this in the shower.

Neal’s Yard Organic Defence Hand Spray is a sanitizer for the hands. When I’m out and about I use it all the time if you don’t have the opportunity to wash your hands. Its the perfect size for your handbag and it’s 95% organic and it has a pleasant scent as well.

Leighton Denny Mini Mani Rescue Kit is a small kit comprising essential nailcare products in a convenient travel package. It has a duplex buffer, mini hoof stick, mini crystal nail file, curved nail clipper in a small purse-like case. I really love it even though the case is a little flimsy in my view but still worth having in your handbag.

Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow in ‘Pearl Beige’ is a cream eyeshadow with doe applicator.  If you don’t have time to apply your make up and you are in a rush, this is very convenient as it gives a nice sheer colour to your eyelids.  It’s not a long-lasting or waterproof shadow but it gives a bit of colour when you need it and time is not on your side.

Burt’s Bees ‘Blush Basin is a new lipstick range from Burt’s Bees. It is 100% natural with Moringa oil and Raspberry Seed Oil. I’m not usually a nude colour lipstick fan but this is nice on the lips. It’s moisturizing, nicely pigmented and long-lasting. It didn’t smudge, budge or crumble. The packaging is a bit boring but the lipstick formula is spot-on and I must try different shades in the range..

Home & Entertainment

I love candles that gives the whole home a nice fragrance. I received a gift of The White Company Candle Set and I do like the Winter scent from it. It was mixture of cloves, cinnamon and orange and it did give a warm scent to the home.

Rebecca Ferguson’s new album ‘Superwoman’ is a wonderful album which really shows off her fantastic voice to its full capabilities. It is a deeply personal album dealing with love and life. She is a true star and this album proves she has really developed since The X Factor . Buy it!

February Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

Here are my February favourites, this month is quite short as I haven’t managed to try so many but I have bought more for March! Looking forward to the Spring!!

Maybelline ‘the falsies push up drama’ Mascara  is a good everyday mascara, gives good length and doesn’t smudge through the day. It is slightly clumpy on the lashes so you need to work quite quickly to separate them. The brush has a rubbery texture and the size is perfect as it is easy to work with.

Pixi Mini Endless Brow Gel Pen in ‘medium’ is a soft gel pen. It goes so quickly! It stays all day but when you work into the brow I did find crumbs developed so I needed to use a brush to comb the brows and this minimized the crumb issue! I find this a bit annoying but the colour was a good match for me. I did like it but powder looks more natural in my view.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Universal Lip Liner has been a product I have used everyday on every colour I have used! Pinks, reds, purples and nudes. It really holds the lipstick and no bleeding from lip line edge. I really like this product.

Max Factor Foundation Brush does have synthetic bristles but it does apply foundation nicely and I have enjoyed using this brush. Soft and very good value.

Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Cream was part of my birthday present I received from my big sister and brother-in-law. I started using this at the beginning of the month at it has been wonderful to use. It has a creamy consistency, absorbs so easily into the skin and my skin felt so moisturized and hydrated as my skin felt slightly dry. Some foundations easily glided on top of this cream when I applied it. Very happy with this and so does my skin!

Tresemme Expert Botanique Nourish & Replenish Coconut Milk & Aloe Vera Shampoo & Conditioner has a gorgeous smell. After washing, the hair is so soft and moisturized. Some shampoos can feel heavy on the hair but not this one. It did nourish the hair and left a nice shine to it. It is also sillcone free and you can feel the difference.

Dad’s Army Complete DVD Collection is a British comedy institution about the Home Guard (local volunteers made up of the old and young) set during the Second World War. It is wonderful comedy, the different characters and the interaction between them is brilliant. They may get themselves into funny situations but they always do their best when something goes wrong, which it does all the time! The writing is wonderful and the actors are just fantastic. We have watched this for 2 months and still watching them!

The Book of Orchids published by Ivy Press is a life size guide to 600 species from around the world. I love orchids and I have 8 orchids in my home. My mother taught me to look after them as she often brought them home to us and I have loved them ever since. I have always grown up with flowers so gardening is very important to me. It is amazing to think that there are so many varieties of orchids in our world. There is a photograph of the actual size of the orchid, a brief description of the plant and a little map to show you where it is from. A beautifully illustrated book and a great book for those who love orchids.

Peter Storm Fleece Jumper has been needed as it is still cold here and I love this little raspberry pink jumper as it’s so warm and it goes with everything. You can wear at home or even in the bed. I have washed it and it has never bobbled unlike other fleeces I have bought.

January Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

Well, January went by very quickly didn’t it? Christmas seems a long time ago..

Here are my favourites from January.

L’Oreal Infallible Eye Paint ‘Iconic Silver’ is a bold silver eyeshadow, almost a grey-black in fact.  It blends and sets so nicely onto the eyes, and it gives a bold, smoky look and lasts all day. I like this a lot and I fancy trying the purple and gold colours now..

Burt’s Bees Anti-blemish Solutions pore refining scrub is a nice, gentle creamy exfoliator. I haven’t find it irritating or drying afterwards. It has salicylic acid in it which helps prevent blemishes and breakouts. It also Jojoba beans and fruits acids which exfolitate the dead skin cells. The jojoba beans in the scrub are gentle and not so vigorous  compared to other scrubs. This is the first time I have used Burt’s Bees skincare range and I will like to try more of their products.

Facial Cleanser with Frankincense By Gilmore was bought at Marylebone Farmers Market directly from the maker. I have never managed to smell frankincense before but in this cleanser it smells like a shoe polish! It is a solid balm cleanser with sweet almond, beeswax, apricot, cocoa, sunflower, calendula and frankincense oils. It removes make-up so well and hasn’t caused any breakouts or clogged pores. My skin feels so smooth and cleansed. The apprearance looks different after using it. I also purchased a small lip balm as well and my lips feels so hydrated.  If you manage to go to Marylebone Market, go to the stand and buy some of it and support the smaller producers!

The first thing to mention about the Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil is the scent. Wow, it is a beautiful scent! It is an oil for dehydrated skin, I had a small 2ml sample but it took me awhile to use it all up! You only need a tiny drop of it. I love to use face oils in the evening rather than the daytime as they work better overnight in my view. It absorbed so easily and non-greasy feel on the skin as well. I would love to buy purchase the bigger size as my skin felt so hydrated and ready for the morning make-up.

I know on the website it says that the Judith Williams Life Long Beauty Nourishing Rose Oil is for 40-80 age range but I don’t care as my skin enjoyed it! It quickly sinks into the skin and it has a sweet rose scent. It moisturized the skin nicely and I have been very impressed.

Molton Brown Ylang Ylang bodywash is a posh shower gel! The smell is heaven, a soft, sweet, flowery scent. I received a Molton Brown set as a birthday gift from a work colleague. It’s a lovely set for your bathroom and body and I feel like a queen in the bathroom now! Thank you BB!

You can’t go wrong with The Body Shop, it’s affordable and everyone can enjoy it. I received a Body Shop Frosted Berry Collection from my little sister. It comes in a tin shaped like an apple! So cute. Inside it has a shower gel, lotion, scrub and body butter.  The smell is a beautiful berry scent and not sickly at all. I love their Christmas sets and I love them all!

I have been very impressed by Bare Feet Soothing Foot Soak by Margaret Dabbs for M&S. I have been using this product in my Scholl’s Foot Spa and really enjoying this. It relaxes my feet after spending most of the day on my feet.

Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Hand & Nail Treatment is a nice, lightweight and non greasy hand cream. It absorbs easily and makes my hands and nail dry-free. I always put this on before bedtime and my hands feels soft and hydrated.

There is so many books on Coco Chanel but I have really enjoyed this book. Part of the Life Portraits series by Frances Lincoln, this  60+ page picture biography has beautiful drawings which explains in short, easy to follow passages her life and career. If you want to avoid the heavy biographies, try this one. The perfect gift for any Chanel lover.

I wanted to do a cross stiching picture for myself rather than buying one. It reminded me of school times of sitting in a class and thinking of what to make and how to do it. I bought this set from C&H. It had everything in the set to make a picture. I decided on a pretty poppy design and I think it looks fab! It took me a while to complete but I did it eventually!

December Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

First of all I wish everyone a healthy and happy 2017! Thank you to everyone for reading my blog, I do appreciate it. Lots of hugs and kisses to you all.

Here are my favourites I used in December.

I have been enjoying Origins skin care. I bought a little set of mini products and I have loved them. The Ginzing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser is a wonderful product, it is a 2-1 cleanser and a gentle exfoliator as well. It is a lovely uplifting scent as well. Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay is another hit for me. It really improved my skin and my skin felt brighter and the redness calmed down.  Ginzing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer is a lightweight cream and absorbs instantly into the skin. You do feel hydrated and the uplifting scent has a real citrus feel to it. Another winner from Origins.

I love hand creams but this is something a bit different.  Alessandro Hand Spa Age Complex Micro Peel is a micro peel for your hands with fruits acids. It has Lactic and Glycolic acids amongst others. When I washed my hands it felt you had given them a deep clean, just like a facial! I really like the concept and for me it worked a treat as my hands felt cleansed, soft and almost velvet like!

OGX Kukui Anti-Freeze Hydrating Oil is another I have really enjoyed. First of all, I like the fact it has a spray action and it is a lightweight consistency not heavy at all and the scent is pleasant too. It really helps to keep my frizziness at bay and I do enjoy putting oils into my hair and the beautiful scent!

I did a separate blog post on the Sleek  Eye & Cheek Palette ‘Dancing Till Dusk’ but I had mention it again. The pigmentation, the ease of blending and the colours look fantastic when applied. Great value palette.

The Charlotte Tibury K.I.S.S.I.N.G ‘Velvet Underground’ is a wonderful pink fuchsia colour and is packed with anti-oxidant that protects the lips from UV damage. The colour is what matters and it is a stunning colour, it glides so easily onto the lips and the pigmentation is fantastic. It doesn’t dry out the lips, stays all day (you need to apply after eating of course!) The packaging is top-notch and I love it!

I have a new tool for applying foundation: Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I have never been sure of these if they do work but I have find it easy to use and you can apply quicker and the complexion looks different from using a brush. I do love brushes but it is good to try different techniques to practice your skills.

I love my music and I listen to music every day. When living in Latvia, I did learn in a choir when in church. I am quite shy in public but in church anyone can sing as you singing from your heart..

I was very excited when I heard Alicia Keys was releasing a new CD, Alicia Here, as I have all her albums. and I’m never disappointed by here output.  I love her voice and her musical ability. Like all her other albums, you need to listen it several times to appreciate it.

Lady Gaga Joanne is my first album from Lady Gaga.  I have played it so often, I know the lyrics to some of the songs and sing-a-long to it but not as good as her of course ! Mark Ronson has managed to find the real voice of her and she can REALLY sing. She is a great songwriter, a great singer and a great personality. A rare find these days.

October Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

A month closer to Christmas and all the beautiful things are coming into the beauty halls and shops! Snow is now falling in Latvia and I do miss the snow!

I did have a mini sample of Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel but I wanted to try a full size bottle. It does a really good job in cleansing the face every day and it did help slightly with my blemish prone skin. If you have combination skin and want a really good cleanser this product is for you.

Dermalogical Ultracalming Cleanser has been a new product for me. I have had redness on my skin lately and I used this cleanser to help with it. It is a very gentle gel cream cleanser with no smell. I like this and I can recommend it to people who have sensitive/irritated skin and this will be excellent for that. No artifical fragrances and is pH balanced as well.

Manuka Doctor Apiclear Blemish Cream is a cream which you smear directly onto the blemish. I have noticed a difference to my skin. I used this on an angry blemish before I went to bed and the following morning the angry blemish had visibly shrunk! I did notice that my skin tightened where I had applied the cream onto the blemish. I think instant action was working to get that angry blemish down!

I did mention in beauty bedroom routine post the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream and I had to mention as a favourite. A wonderful product and a winner for me!

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks ‘Powder Pink’ is a fantastic nude pink colour and looks so beautiful on the face. It is so easy to apply and blends so effortlessly on the skin. The great thing is that you can apply this on the lips too! This great multi-tasking product. I now have to try other shades in the range!

Clinque All about Shadow Duos in ‘Nightcap’ is classic Clinque qualityThe two shades are a beautiful sliver eyeshadow with a hint of green. The second shade is a charcoal shade with a hint of green too. It is a perfect combo to create a smoky eye on the go. Easy to blend and work with and the shades have great pigmentation. This is my second Clinque pallet and I do love the quality of their eyeshadows.

I love the colour and smell of Body Shop’s Matt Lip Liquid ‘Sydney Amaryllis’, it’s so easy to apply with the applicator. It does dry to a matte finish.  It doesn’t stay all day on the lips and it does dry the lips so it feels you need to apply a lip balm. You know you have to re-apply it but that’s the fun of lip sticks!
