March & April Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

I decided to combine March and April favourites so here we go!

L’Oreal Smooth Sugars Nourish Scrub  is a new range of skincare from L’Oreal. I decided to try this but they have 2 more different scrubs in the range. It is a fine brown sugar scrub made from cocoa butter, coconut oil and cocoa grains. It felt gentle on the skin and exfolitated well and didn’t irritate or leave me with any breakouts. The skin felt very soft, smooth and velvety. You can also use this on your lips and the smell is delicious.

Clarins Toning Lotion with Iris is a alcohol free toner. It is for combination/oily skin and I love to use it in the evenings as an extra cleanse on my skin. It doesn’t dry or irritate my skin. I do love toners and I will always use them.

Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz is a 100% organic product and is reasonably priced! I use this in the mornings to refresh and hydrate the skin. It just the start my skin needs before I do my make up or if I want to be make-up free. The smell is pleasant with the damask rose scent and my skin loves it.

I have been using Clinque’s All About Eyes for a couple of months in the mornings. It is a gel cream constituency and you only need to use a tiny amount underneath the eyes. The makeup didn’t crease underneath and it really helped to hydrate the eyes and didn’t irritate me. It really helped to keep fine lines at bay!

I have been using Juliette Armand Elements 05 DNA Repair Serum for 4 months now and I have seen an improvement to my skin. The spots scars have diminished and the skin looks more even and less redness. It contains BIFIDUS bacterium and milk proteins and this stimulates the enzymatic system of the skin to identify and repair damages to the DNA of the skin cells. The skin feels less dehydrated and no irritation either. It absorbs easily into the skin and unlike other serums, my make up and foundation never slipped from my face. I still have another month left of product so I may have to buy another bottle!

I found the Clarins Summer Eye Palette on sale in Debenhams. It is a beautiful designed 4 colour palette with a nice size mirror included. The colours are a nude-golden, brown-orange combination. You can do a natural look or even a smoky look for the evenings. Nicely pigmented and easy to blend shades. Perfect for the summer glow for the eyes!

I have never tried any products from this brand but the CYO Kohl Gel Eyeliner ‘Highflier’ has been excellent. The dark turquoise eyeliner was what I was looking for the summer. It was easy to draw the flick on the eyes and it didn’t smudge, crumble or fade and stayed on for a number of hours. The other great thing is that you don’t need to sharpen it as it is an retractable eyeliner!

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils is a little sample I have been trying. The bristle brush is small but easy to apply with. It gave the lashes lift and volume. No smudge or crumbs under the eyes either, so a really great everyday mascara. I now have to buy the full size version!

Lancome Shine Lover ‘O My Rouge 120’ is a vibrant shiny lipstick. The colour is a raspberry red with hydrating glossy qualities. The staying power of the lipstick is excellent. It gives the lips a juicy fruity effect. It feels like a balm but with the staying powering look of a lipstick.

Barry M Holographic Lip Topper ‘Mermaid’ is right up my street. It smells fruity but not sickly. On the lips the colour is stunning. You can use it on its own or on top of lipstick, either look is amazing.g  The staying power on the lips is excellent and I wear it in the daytime too! A bit of bling-bling for the lips and the price is excellent too!

September Favourites!

Hi Everybody,

Evenings are getting shorter and the nights are drawing in..

Here are some new things I have been enjoying using.

I’m not into the crazy face sculpting fashion but I have been liking the Beauty Pie Pro-Glow Sculpting Face Palette. It is in a handy product which you have everything in one palette. You have a setting powder to set your make up, I usually use this on my forehead and nose. A bronzer/contour which is a light matte finish. This can be used on paler skin for a sun-kissed link or to build up for a full bronze look.  The cream highlighter is a champagne colour but with a hint of glitter. I have found that it stayed all day on me. The rosy coloured blush gives you a little flushed to your cheeks. I have been really enjoying this and the mirror is a large practical size too.

The Body Shop Eye Colour stick in ‘Siberian Quartz‘  is a purple-aubergine cream eyeshadow. I love wearing this for a dramatic eye look as it blends easily and sets quickly so it doesn’t move all day along. It doesn’t feel that it dries out and I love the practical stick  as it so easily to work with . Also good for people who are in a rush!

Barry M Dazzle Dust ‘Rose Gold’ is a beautiful colour. I do have a few pots of the dazzle dust by Barry M in my dressing table.  It’s easy to work with, blends easily and nicely pigmented. It looks great on the eyes and the great thing is that its not expensive. What’s not to like?

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer ‘Pink Ruby’ is a dazzler of a colour. Its rich, pigmented and stands out on the lips. Its a bit of bling-bling for the lips! It has a little stickiness but I don’t mind that. The only minor downside is that I wish it had a doe applicator rather than a brush but you can’t have everything!

I have been using Avene Hydrance Intense Serum for two and a half months. This serum is for very dehydrated/sensitive skin. I found that my skin was helped by using this serum. My skin felt hydrated, less redness. The blemishes appeared less often, the skin looked even, radiant and luminous. The serum has a light consistency and has a pleasant and not overbearing scent.  It doesn’t feel tacky on the skin. I applied the serum before I applied a moisturizer and no matter what moisturizer I used, it sat perfectly.

I applied Lancome Energie De Vie Nuit sleeping mask in the evenings instead of my night moisturizer. It is a jelly like cream and my skin felt moisturized, hydrated and plump when I used it. The skin feels amazing and awake and you only need a little of this little gem of a product to see the benefits.

Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules is a lightweight, silky smooth serum . They are the first help against the first the signs of aging by strengthening and restoring the skin’s moisture barrier. My skin in the morning looked different after the first use. It looked smoother and radiant. No breakouts afterwards so I’m happy about that and I really must treat myself to more!

NUXE Huile Prodigieuse is a multi purpose dry oil for face, body and hair. I am not a fan of multi purpose oils. I didn’t like using this oil on my face and hair but on the body it is simply amazing! It didn’t feel greasy at all compared to other oils when applied with them you feel like a slippery eel! It absorbed so easily and the scent is subtle and pleasant and not overpowering. The skin felt different, not at all sticky but so soft and smooth.

I love mangoes, especially when you cut a fresh and ripe mango and the scent comes from the fruit, so Klorane Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner with Mango Butter reminds me of that.  My hair likes mango too as it looked and felt nourished. It also felt moisturized and no feeling of weighing the hair down like some shampoos I have tried in the past. The hair felt so soft and light like a little chicken’s hair! It looked supple the hair looked healthy with a lovely shine to it. Its a little pricey maybe but its worth it although I did buy this on offer in Boots so you do need to shop around. I hope to see more variety as the stock is quite limited compared to France.

Gatineau Skincare!

Hi Everybody,

The French really do know how to make skincare. Is there a country that has so many skincare brands producing such high-quality  skincare products? We are now blessed that availability is easier in the UK than ever before. It used be specialist shops/salons but now Boots and online sellers have wide ranges of French skincare to try.

I have never tried Gatineau products before but I took advantage of an offer on the UK website. Instead of buying one or two products,  I decided to buy one of the gift sets as they have a wider range of products.

The first product is the Eye Make Up Remover.  It is a lightweight, non-oily eye make up remover. It feels like a micellar water but with an acetone smell, similar to a nail polish remover! It is quite strong. My eyes did become quite watery but it removed mascara and make up very well. I don’t think I will purchase it again because of the smell!

The Melatogenine Refreshing Cleansing Cream is a creamy consistency cleansing cream to remove impurities and make up. After use the skin felt so squeaky clean and refreshed. The skin did feel a bit tight but that’s because of the anti-aging ingredients.

The Peeling Expert Radiance Enhancing Gommage is my favourite. You do have to read the instructions carefully to benefit from it. You massage onto dry skin for 1-2 minutes and it feels like you are applying honey into your face!  It feels sticky and difficult to massage into the skin. It will eventually turn into a liquid as you massage it into the skin.  You then remove it with the Gatineau cloth. It’s worth the effort as my skin felt radiant, glowing and fresh. The vitamin C, AHA and the pearlescent orange gel with enzymes are the reason why it works.

The Melatogenine Futur Plus Anti-Wrinkle Radiant Mask is another creamy consistency mask. It gives a fresh and radiant feel to the skin while helping to fight these pesky wrinkles! Ten minutes is all your skin needs with this mask then rinse with warm water. My skin looked nice and radiant, really impressed with this mask.

The Melatogenine AOX Probiotics Plus Advanced Rejuvenating Cream is a rich face cream that boosts skin’s elasticity and restores an even and glowing complexion. Anyone from age 30 upwards should use this cream. You need to warm it between your fingers and massage it into your face. I found it a bit rich for my skin, probably perfect for the winter time.

Overall, they are really great quality products and although expensive the quality of the ingredients and the technology behind them is worth the extra you pay. I don’t believe you should skimp on quality skincare and Gatineau are among the best.

I now look forward to trying the other great French makers of skincare…

Oil & Balm Cleansers!

Hi Everybody,

This is my second post on cleansers and my views on the ones I have been using. This time I will be looking at oil based cleansers.

This is the most important routine of the day when you are preparing your skin to rid of all the dirt, impurities and make up through the day so you have a fresh, clean start for the next morning. Of course you have a second cleanse for your specific skin type.

Here we have four different cleansers from four different types of manufacturer: A multi national conglomerate, a small company, a supermarket chain and a homemade producer!

L’Oreal Skin Perfecting Miracle Cleansing Oil has an advantage straight away from the rest. The easy to use pump is an advantage! This helps to dissolve the make-up with your first step of your cleansing routine. I didn’t get any breakouts or dryness afterwards. One minor issue I has with it was the scent, which is quite overpowering. It felt you were using perfume on your face and rubbing it in! In my view, a cleansing like this does need an strong, artificial scent.

Super Facialist by Una Brennen Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil has no pump action, so you need to pour it onto your hands. Downside! This should have a pump action and all oil based cleansers should have pump action mechanisms to avoid mess free spillages! It  dissolves make up really well and I didn’t feel dryness or breakouts. But the scent is awful in my view. An artificial smell of oranges! It did put me off to continue to use it all.

Waitrose Pure Hydration Hot Cloth Cleanser is more of a balm in a tube! It has no smell so fragrance free. It has an oily consistence when you rub it and a slight grittiness as well. It also exfoliates and is quite gentle as well. I removed with a muslin cloth and my skin felt so soft and smooth. It is so nourishing to your skin  and I had no breakouts with it. I am very impressed with this product and it is also 100% naturally derived ingredients as well! Excellent choice for vegans and those with sensitive skin.

This Facial Cleanser with Frankincense was purchased directly from the producer at Marylebone Farmers Market. I did mention this in my January favoutites. It still smells like shoe polish but the results are still excellent! I use a muslin cloth and I still really happy to use this for my skin routine as my skin loves it!

My Beauty Bedtime Routine!

Hi Everybody,

After washing, cleansing and make-up remover, I  have a simple routine which I try to stick with!

I always use an eye cream, this may vary to whatever I have bought. At the moment I am using Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream. The areas around my eyes seem to get fairly dry. This is cream gel texture which is quite thick. It absorbs so nicely into the area, it doesn’t feel greasy or burns or give puffiness. I then follow up with Estee Lauder Advanced Repair Serum. You only need a tiny amount which you massage into your face and neck but I also rub any  excess onto my hands. It does take time to see any difference to my skin so I do need to give it more time before I have a real opinion. I also use Garnier Miracle Sleeping Cream. I have found that this product really makes a difference to my skin.  My skin feels brighter, moisturized and gives a real boost to it. A really affordable product. I follow up with Pai Bergamot Lip Balm. My lips feels so moisturized after using it. You only need a small anount and it lasts forever! When I’m in bed, I use the Body Shop Almond Nail & Cuticle Oil. This is in a pen form, so easy to use and even apply on my husband. This is a really nice product and has made a difference to our nails. Finally I love my hand creams. You look after your face and you need to look after your hands too! I have been using Inspired Silky Hand Cream with Geranium & Orange. This has beeswax, honey and various essential oils in it and my hands feel silky afterwards. A lovely hand cream and a good amount in a pot which lasts a long time.

It’s worth the effort and the results make a difference!

Dr Hauschka Clarifying Face Care Kit!

Hi Everybody,

Dr Hauschka has been around since 1935 and based in Eckwalden since 1950. Their reputation is based on its principals of sustainability,  an holistic approach to the mind and spirit and the use of science.

I bought this sample kit in Infinity Foods in Brighton.  I choose the Clarifying Face Care Kit for combination, blemish and oily skin. I have never tried any of their products and I always think the small kits are a great introduction to a brand.

The kit includes; Cleansing Cream; Clarifying toner; Clarifying Day Oil; Melissa Day Cream; Clarifying Steam Bath; Clarifying Clay Mask and Revitalising Mask. So it has everything you need to cleanse, tone and moisturize, which are the three main steps Dr Hauschka  taught to look after your skin.

The cleansing cream is a thick, grainy consistency which is not abrasive to the skin at all but the unusually texture is different to other cleansing creams. You can feel the difference after washing it from your skin.

The Clarifying  Toner really does freshen the skin and it  did help with my redness.

The Day Oil absorbs so quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave a greasy feel to it and my skin loves it!

The Melissa Day Cream is a nicely balanced cream which can can do anything.  It calms, hydrates and radiants the skin. My make-up didn’t slide at all.

The Steam Bath prepares the skin for a deep cleanse and is very freshing.

The Clay Mask I used after the Steam Bath and it gives a deep cleanse as it draws out impurities and dirt. My skin feel brighter and blemishes were not so aggressive and also less redness.

The Revitalising Mask rejuvenates and soothes the skin. My blemishes and redness were less aggressive and my skin had a radiant glow.

If you have a nut allergy, please make sure you read the ingredient list as some products do contain peanut oil.

I liked all the products and enjoyed the skincare regime and I really felt the difference of using them so I will be buying some of the full-size products and I will include them in my skincare routine from now on.

Sukin Skincare Review.

Hi Everybody,

Sukin was created in Melbourne in 2007  by a family who wanted to provide high-quality, affordable skincare.  They are certified 100% vegan and carbon neutral.  “Skincare that doesn’t cost the earth” is their tagline which reflects their affordable price positioning and also touches on Sukin’s natural formulations and earth friendly brand ethos.

I bought the products from Infinty Foods in Brighton where they have a nice selection of products but now you can buy  some of the range from Holland & Barrett.

Packaging is of a nice quality and with a good quantities of each product. No small amounts in silly little bottles here!

I have mentioned that I have used their cream cleanser which is excellent for removing make-up from my skin with a muslin cloth but I have added more products since then.  The Foaming Facial Cleanser is sulphate and paraben free so it doesn’t dry your skin out.  The ingredients include Chamomile, Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel which makes this a gentle product that you can happily use everyday in your skin care regime.  The Revitalising Facial Scrub is again a gentle scrub that uses non-abrasive, micro particles of bamboo extract and ground walnut shells that removes dirt and impurities.  Your skin feels clean, soft and smooth.  The Facial Moisturiser is a lightweight formula which absorbs into the skin easily. I have used this under make up and have had no issues. I do suffer from breakouts and I have found this helps to calm and heal them. I like the fact you have a pump action mechanism which helps gets all the product out.  The smell won’t be for everyone as it grassy/herby scent but I don’t mind it myself. The last product is the Moisture Restoring Night Cream. I have mentioned this before as a monthly favourite but it is a wonderful product. It has an bouncy, rich texture and is enriched with rose hip, primrose and borage oils to protect the skin’s moisture barrier. After using it, my skin does feel moisturized and hydrated.

These make a nice collection of products to use for your skincare regime without breaking the bank and also knowing that they are also kind to the environment. Now to try their masks, facial oils and body range they make!
